Bontrager WaveCel - Setting new standards in helmet technology

Recognising that not all crashes result in straightforward impacts but also involve twisting and rotational forces, Bontrager went back to the drawing board when designing their latest line of helmets. With their revolutionary new technology, WaveCel, they’ve created a helmet that they claim is more effective in protecting your head from injury than traditional designs.

British riders at the Tour de France

British riders at the Tour de France

British riders have had a lot of success at the Tour de France in the past decade, This year, however, we are without some of the more prominent British riders – Chris Froome suffered a nasty crash in the lead up to the Tour and Mark Cavendish failed to make the grade for his team. Even so, there are some exciting British riders racing the Tour, so let’s take a look at their race so far…

Specialized dominate the opening classics week

Specialized dominate the opening classics week

One-day classics are revered for their unpredictability and ‘anything can happen’ kind of racing. But with Boels-Dolmans and Deceuninck-Quick Step romping to victory in all but one of the season-opening classics races, it seems as though their shared bike sponsor, Specialized, have happened across a winning formula to these traditionally ‘unpredictable’ races.

Trek Reigns in Spain

Trek Reigns in Spain

The latest addition to the professional women’s road race scene, Trek-Segafredo, made one heck of an impact in last week’s four-day Spanish stage race, the Setmana Ciclista Valenciana. After hanging her race wheels up after a 16 year-long career, new directeur sportif Giorgia Bronzini couldn’t have asked for a better start to the European season.

If you’re in the market for a versatile bike capable of taking on a wide range of adventures then read on. If you just like beautiful bikes then don’t go anywhere either – this is one special machine.

An ode to Alberto

An ode to Alberto

With the Spaniard announcing that this month’s Vuelta a España will be his final race as a professional, here are a few of our favourite El Pistolero moments:

Another sackful of present ideas for all

It’s coming close to pre-Christmas gift-acquiring crunch time, with a little over two weeks to go. While the stress and pressure might be mounting, there’s no shame in waiting until now to get the presents ticked off, although be wary of delivery times in the run-up to the big day! Trade your commute for an Ebike

Trade your commute for an Ebike

Arriving at work grumpy and apathetic after an hour spent having your personal space invaded on public transport is no way to start the day. Nor is the stress of rush hour traffic and the hunt for a parking space. Maybe you’ve thought about commuting by bike but can’t face the cold mornings of hard pedalling and getting to work needing a shower. But there is a solution – do as the Dutch do and commute by e-bike.

2017 New Model Launch

As September opens its doors, the end of summer beckons. The thought of digging out the warm leggings and merino base layer is not one we’re particularly looking forward to, but one thing we can get excited about is the release of a new season of bikes. Our favourite brands have just released their 2017 ranges, throwing in new tech, updated specifications and even new models. We’ve pulled together just a handful of the most exciting new releases for 2017.

Three amazing full-suspension mountain bikes

Three amazing full-suspension mountain bikes

There’s always a lot of chatter about the relative advantages of hardtail vs full-suspension mountain bikes. Some traditionalists think there is a finer art to perfecting riding hardtail, while others cite the pure fun factor of unleashing a full-suspension bike on a downhill and letting the shocks front and back take the sting out of the road. The downside of a full-suspension MTB is that with that extra springy-ness, there’s a bit more give when you’re putting power through the pedals – which can make it trickier to rack up the vertical metres. Hardtails will also tend to run a little quicker on the flat.

Get into it! Three great mountain bikes under £500

Get into it! Three great mountain bikes under £500

Mountain biking is awesome. It’s fun, it’s exhilarating and it’s even good for you! What’s not to like? If you haven’t tried it, we strongly urge you to do so and not to let the lack of a big budget to spend on a bike get in your way. Sure there are some extremely expensive mountain bikes out there which are finely-tuned speed machines fit for competition, but if you’re just starting out this is going to be way more tech than you need or know what to do with.

The Best Bikes for Riding Cheddar Gorge

The Best Bikes for Riding Cheddar Gorge

The climb of Cheddar Gorge has reached near-mythic status among road bike riders in the UK, and justifiably so. It has featured often in the Tour of Britain since the race was relaunched in 2004 and it also made it into Simon Warren’s cult climber’s bible, ‘100 Greatest Cycling Climbs’. The two-and-half mile stretch of road provides both a stern test for those who choose to take it on and an amazing reward, in the form of its spectacular setting and scenery.
