Electric mountain bikes for 2020

Here at the Bicycle Chain we have seen that electric power assisted bikes are more popular than ever. After a little bit of trepidation, e-MTBs are now the in-vogue bike and are whipping up a storm. We have a large range of said bikes from the likes of Trek, Giant and Specialized to take you up trails faster than ever before, allowing you to cruise down the other side with all the energy in the world.

It is important to know what type of riding you want to be doing before committing to a new bike. We stock hardtails for all-rounders looking for a boost to their training rides or adventures, and full suspension models for enduro and downhill riders – all are more than ready to take a beating on the trails.

Hardtails

Hardtail mountain bikes are great all-rounders, ideal when your ride has a real mix of rough and smooth terrain. With a lightweight frame, front end suspension and slender grippy tyres for better traction and control, the hardtail is a trusty bike. Like most hardtails, these models still have nimble handling and feel close to the trial thanks to low bottom brackets. Add an integrated motor and a sense of adventure and you have yourself the perfect package.

The motor isn’t there to do the work for you, rather it allows you to ride further for longer and get more out of your days in the saddle. As a result, these bikes are an ideal option for off-road touring as the motor provides the power to perform on road, gravel and on climbs without completely wrecking your own human battery. Stay out for longer and take up more ambitious objectives with an electric hardtail mountain bike.

Full suspension

As well as hardtails we also have plenty of full suspension options for a boost in your enduro and downhill rides. Spruced up and engineered in key places for reinforcement on the toughest terrain, these powerful machines will have you flying down trails and over jumps in no time.

Heavier than hardtails, these machines aren’t for the road or gravel but pure off-road pursuits. With the added benefit of a little extra power thanks to the integrated motor, gone are the days of lugging your bike back up the trail or relying on a shuttle vehicle to do the hard work for you. Simply engage the motor and cruise back up the climb. As you’d expect from this range, with or without a motor, you still get plenty of bang for your buck with reliable front and rear suspension lockouts, shocks, hydraulic disc brakes and dropper seatposts. Throw in a motor and these bikes are better prepared than ever to tackle all day enduro cycling and downhill trails.
