What's new for MTBers in 2017?

There are so many MTB frames being launched at the moment, ready for the 2017 season of trail thrashing, all-mountain exploring and adrenaline-driven downhilling that you might be feeling a little overwhelmed. We picked out three highlights that we’re particularly excited about and looked at them in a little more detail.

Cannondale Cujo 27plus

The Cujo is a new addition to the Cannondale range and there are actually three different versions. The standout feature of this bike is it’s able to run bigger tyres – Cannondale refers to it as a 27plus – but at a more accessible price point than other oversized clearance bikes in the range.

Designed for trail riding, this great-looking hardtail option is a surprisingly fun little ride. The geometry is more stable, rather than overly race oriented or aggressive – but it still packs plenty of punch.

The biggest difference between Cujo models 1,2 and 3 is the number of speeds on the drivetrain – the 1 has a 3x chainset at the front, while the 2 and 3 have only 2x. It depends what type of riding you plan to get up to, but realistically 2x should be plenty unless you’re off scaling serious inclines. All three have 120mm of front travel.

We currently have the Cujo 3 listed online, but you can also order other Cannondale models through us – just get in touch.

Giant Trance 4

Not strictly new, but rather an update on one of Giant’s most popular and venerable lines – the new(ish) Trance packs a whole lot of power, fun and personality.

So what are the differences from the 2016 Trance? Well there’s a new long metric shock (many brands are switching to metric from imperial this year), a slightly longer reach delivering better grips, and shorter stays for a more aggressive geometry. The newly lowered bottom bracket gets you closer to the surface and makes you feel more in control.

There are four different models in the line, each offering a different level of componentry package. To be honest none of these bikes is going to let you down, but for the competitive, race-minded the 1 is going to be a very viable option, while the 4 delivers consummate, unquestionable performance. Trek Remedy 8

We’re really excited about Trek’s update to their superb enduro machine, the Remedy. There are, as usual, a few different models that have been tweaked or updated for 2017, but it’t the Remedy 9 Race Shop Limited that really caught our eye. Even if that name is a bit of a mouthful!

At the front end of the bike there’s a dual-position Rockshox Lyrik RC fork that offers you either 160mm or 130mm travel, whole at the back the Deluxe RT3 gives you 150mm. That’s a pretty plush full-suspension machine right there! (Remedy 8 depicted)

Drivetrain is 100% SRAM X1 – a properly exciting and efficient power transfer system that’ll see you flying uphill almost as fast as you go down them.

Give us a call if you’d like to know more about Trek’s Remedy line. There are a couple more in the range that offer a full-carbon frame, as opposed to the alloy used on the 9 Race Shop Limited.
