EXPERIENCED BIKE BUILDER - ALL STORES

A great bike builder is a key member of every Bicycle Chain store.... a bike comes in from our supplier, is built by our bike builder and then goes home with the customer.

That's a big responsibility!

The reputation of the Bicycle Chain and the perceived quality of the bikes we sell is in the hands of our bike builders, the training we provide and the quality control measures we put in place.

We owe it to our customers and suppliers to build our bikes to the highest standard and test them thoroughly so the customer goes home with a bike that will be a joy to ride.

We are looking to hire a bike builder that has good attention to detail paired with the confidence and ability to keep up with the building demands of a busy bike shop. Typically building 8 - 10 bikes a day once fully up to speed.

Whilst training will be provided the ideal candidate will have experience building bikes in a busy workshop environment and a Cytech Level 2 qualification would be an advantage.

In today's retail landscape customer experience is key and at The Bicycle Chain all our staff are a part of that experience.

All our bike builders will start their training on the shop floor to ensure they can support our sales team and meet our customer service standards before moving on to a bike builder role.

As a bike builder you will prioritize answering the phone and serving customers on the shop floor when sales staff are busy. Good communication skills and a helpful outgoing personality are a must.

At The Bicycle chain we believe its important to support your staff and to help them grow. We grow our own talent from within and help them progress to the next level. Our bike builders follow a natural progression to help them develop their mechanical skills and work towards supporting the bike mechanics and a potential future as a mechanic.

CAREER PROGRESSION

On-boarding: Customer service and basic sales training.

Stage 1: Building Bikes, familiarizing yourself with the models we sell and working on speed and efficiency. Working towards 8 - 10 bikes a day.

Stage 2: Building Bikes - Carrying out supplier warranty jobs.

Stage 3: Building Bikes - Supplier warranty jobs - Supporting the mechanics carrying out the free 6 week checks we offer with every bike we sell.

Stage 4: Building Bikes - Supplier warranty jobs - Free 6 week checks - Carrying out select customer warranty jobs.

Mechanic training: By this stage you are an excellent bike builder and from here on you can start to work towards becoming a bike mechanic: Supporting the mechanics with straight forward Bronze service jobs, working with the mechanics to grow your mechanical diagnosis and repair skills and Cytech Level 2 qualification ( if not already attained ). Progressing to supporting the workshops when mechanics are on holiday.

All working towards putting yourself in a prime position to be considered for a mechanic role should one become available.

PAST STAFF TESTIMONIALS

We love all our staff, check out what some of our past staff have to say about us.

I worked at The Bicycle Chain for approximately 10 years. During this time, I gained valuable experience in both sales and as a mechanic. I was always supported by both my manager and the owner to achieve the goals I set myself. I was given great opportunities to further my skills by attending many trade shows and completing the Cytech NVQ qualification. This is what enabled me to start out as a Saturday Mechanic and finish as an Assistant/Workshop Manager.

The friendly atmosphere enabled me to form great friendships and offered many opportunities to bond as a team both in and out of work. Working for The Bicycle Chain was a lot of fun and very rewarding. Your work and efforts were always appreciated.

I truly enjoyed working for The Bicycle Chain and can honestly say that I would recommend them as an employer.

Josh Tobin

I was very fortunate to join The Bicycle Chain straight out of sixth form at age 18 and what a fantastic experience it was! I think the first thing I saw from day one is just what it means to work in a family run business that prides itself on customer service.

I had a real passion for cycling, particularly mountain biking and it was fantastic that I was able to share this with both the staff and the customers.

This was my first real job and I worked mainly in a sales role, which at busy times really was a great buzz as the team pulled together to reach targets and the results were very rewarding. I loved how I was involved in a whole range of different aspects of the business, being able to help out in the workshop, build new bikes and even go out on demo days run by the brands we sold!
